Local talent - national recognition

For the first time, on Monday 19th May Jersey will see the arrival of a judging panel from the Construction Industry's prestigious UK body, the Chartered Institute of Building who are visiting the Island to view both the Liberation Place and Liberation Station projects and to interview one particular individual involved with the construction of the buildings.

Nominated by Rowney Sharman, who acted as the client's project manager for Liberation Place, the panel will be interviewing Camerons  Anthony Joubert who was the Construction Manager responsible for the successful delivery of these iconic buildings.

Rowney Sharman who have offices based in Jersey, Ascot and London, put together the submission for the CIOB awards, recognising the importance both to jersey and the local team involved, of gaining wider recognition outside of the Island's shores. Based on the submission, Anthony Joubert has now been identified as a finalist in the UK Construction Manager of the Year category.

Managing Director Stewart Rowney commented, 'We are delighted that our nomination has been successful in reaching the CIOB's shortlist, we are only too aware of the intense competition these awards attract and it is a credit to not only Anthony but to the whole team involved in the project that it has attracted such interest.

The project itself had some interesting challenges, such as retaining the historic façade and the refurbishment and replacement of the World War 2 gun emplacement at what is now Tourism's new headquarters. Anthony also dealt with running both the Liberation Place and Liberation Station projects simultaneously whilst dealing with two clients and two separate professional teams and we firmly believe, as obviously does the CIOB, that our nomination is worthy of some attention'.

Rowney Sharman's nomination and submission has been supported by Camerons, Jersey's only Chartered Building Company and Axis Mason who were responsible for both the external and interior design elements of the project.

The awards ceremony will take place in London in October of this year.
